Dollhouse Chaise Lounge pt. 2

It's been a while since I did an update, but finally here I am with the part 2 of the Dollhouse Chaise Lounge. It has taken almost 2,5 years to finally finish it and of course I have had other projects, but to be honest I have also struggled with how to do it. How to make the mattress and cushions?

Key question: how?

The answer was layers.

First I had to use a cardboard, then I added a "plastic packaging" (spare parts from purchased technology, packaging) and to fix that to the cardboard I used double-sided tape. Third layer is "plastic lining", this part was not fixed to any of the other layers. Last layer is the fabric.

Step 1

I started with the hard section, the armrest as that had to be fixed in a round shape. My first try didn't work of two reasons. First I hadn't prepared the cardboard enough and second, I had tighten the fabric way too much.

Step 1a

To be able to fix the armrest properly I had to use nails in both sides
.

Step 2

Next step was the backrest. My first try didn't work at all and actually the challenge was the curvy shape of the backrest. With a second try (of doing a sofa like this) I wouldn't do such fancy curves!

Step 2a

The trick was to cut triangles and glue them one by one. I also made some of the top ones, then the lower part, then the middle part and last the sides.

Step 3

The matrass. All the time I have used thin papers to make templates before starting to cut the cardboard. One of the good things with my design was the bedframe I did in the beginning. It helped a lot to keep the matrass in place without actually glue that one.

The final result

During this journey, from 2019 and this blogpost I have come to realize I have start to be a bit of a perfectionist and therefore, I am only 90% satisfied with the result. The armrest could have been more in an angle, the backrest could have had less curves and the corners of the matrass could have been better glued.
