Steampunk Dollhouse Roof

This house is the look I aim for. If I use layers and different colors I hope I can create an illusion that make my tower look like a house. Meanwhile creating the walls I have also prepared the roof.

And to create that kind of roof as above I had to come up with a solution of how I could create tiles. Again, my solution turned out to be egg cartons. But before the tiles I glued planks to the roof, planks made from old plate tablets. 

Please note: the roof is not ready, I only want to show how I have found solutions to my challenges.
